Puppy Preschool
Setting Your Puppy Up for Success
Starting your puppy’s training early is essential for building good behaviour and confidence. At Valley Vet Surgery, our puppy preschool program is designed to help puppies aged 8 to 16 weeks learn essential skills and socialise in a positive, safe environment.
Held at our Walkerston location and serving the Mackay and Marian areas, our puppy preschool focuses on basic obedience training, such as sitting, staying, and walking calmly on a lead. Socialisation with other puppies is a key part of the program, helping your pup become well-adjusted and confident in different situations.
Our friendly team provides expert guidance, offering advice on nutrition, health care, and behavioural management. Puppy preschool is a great foundation for lifelong learning and companionship.

The Best Start
Did you know that the first few months of your puppy’s life are the most crucial time for bonding, socialising and training? At Valley Veterinary Surgery, we feel all puppies benefit from Puppy Preschool, which helps them learn, train, and socialise in those early weeks.
Our Puppy Preschool classes are based at our Walkerston surgery and are a series of 4 classes 1 week apart from 6.30-7.30 pm in the evenings (the day may depend on the month it is held). Our aim during these classes is to teach your puppy some essential skills and to give you some knowledge that can assist in their early development.
In addition to Puppy Preschool, we offer a range of other services to support your pet’s health and well-being. These include
microchipping for identification,
parasite prevention and treatment to keep your pets safe, pet
weight management for a healthier lifestyle, routine check-ups to detect health concerns early, and
ultrasounds for advanced diagnostics. At Valley Veterinary Surgery, we are here to care for your pets at every stage of life.

- To teach basic obedience – sit, stay, drop and come plus learning to walk on the lead
- To educate you, the owner and to make sure you can handle any emergency situation with your dog and the basics of owning a new puppy
- To make a visit to the vet even more enjoyable

Our puppy trainer will also make sure you can handle any emergency situation with your dog – First Aid, toads, ticks, and snakes. What’s normal and what’s not?
